Behind the designs

Every product from Katie Blair Designs features original designs. My illustrations are printed by hand, using traditional screenprinting methods that take ideas from sketches on paper to detailed illustrations to stencils stretched across wood-and-cloth screens. Each product is completely hand-crafted, and I take care that everything I make is high quality.

The products at Katie Blair Designs are created by me, Kate Carpenter, a designer based in Kansas City, Missouri. I earned a Bachelor of Journalism degree from the University of Missouri-Columbia. I worked as a newspaper and magazine designer before launching Katie Blair Designs. I love hiking, cooking, gardening, and overspending at farmers' markets.

Doing what I can

I am constantly striving to decrease my environmental impact. To that end, I use at least 30% recycled paper in all my products, and much of my paper — and all of my envelopes — are 100% recycled. I purchase my paper supplies from a company that uses wind power, and I try to minimize packaging whenever possible. For screenprinting, I use non-toxic, water-based inks, and I re-use inks and supplies as much as possible.
